Artistic Expression
The phrase "It takes a village to raise a child" has never been as important as it is now. TBB/TBG seeks to nurture and support our communites. Many members are activists in their communities and a few are nationally and internationally known for their efforts. Members regularly participate in food drives, help in soup kitchens and shelters, provide seminars on civilian interfacing with law enforcement, and organize events meant to make our communities a better place. There are many misconceptions about Hip Hop and our members seek to dispel any negative stereotypes associated with the culture. Our continuing education efforts ensure that our members pass along their knowledge to the community and cement TBB/TBG into the fabric of their communities.
A major part of our mission is to mentor the youth. In this age of short attention spans the youth have been conditioned to distraction by the media, technology, and society. TBB/TBG members mentor the youth in our communities and help them develop discipline and purpose. We teach them the arts of DJing, MCing, Art, and Dance. We instill them with knowledge of self and in turn introduce them to the culture of Hip Hop. This helps fortify their self-esteem and gives them goals. We have many members who are educators and counselors who also lend their skills to helping in the community via lectures, workshops, and one on one counseling. Acting as force multipliers, we devolop future leaders who will then progagate the knowledge to the next generation of potential leaders.
Primariily TBB/TBG is a Rocking Crew. We express ourselves through the art of the dance. Rocking is the original term for "b-boying" or "break dancing". TBB/TBG members represent the crew in B-boy battles, competitions, cyphers, and the community. Many members perform workshops and seminars to teach the art of rocking to a new generation of rockers. Some members peform in the streets just like back in the day. We call this "hitting". Our diverse members also express themselves in the other elements of Hip Hop. We have talented graffiti artists who do murals for businesses and organizations. We have MCs who actively record and distribute their music. We also have many talented DJs who spin on their own radio shows, in clubs, at jams, and some who even DJ for established rap groups. With over 50 chapters worldwide, you are bound to see a member of TBB/TBG representing at an event near you!
